Why Spay and Neuter

Reasons to Spay or Neuter your pet

The single biggest animal welfare problem facing the local area are the number of stray cats and dogs. It is not their fault – and rounding them up only delays the problem as more strays move in to a recently cleared area. The only humane way resolve the excessive numbers of stray animals, and the problems they inadvertently cause, is to reduce the numbers of new litters.

Rescuing abandoned and rehabilitated dogs from the Dumaguete Animal Sanctuary rather than purchasing new animals from breeders is also part of the solution. There are many wonderful pets waiting for loving homes – take a look at www.dumagueteanimalsanctuary.com/our-rescues !

If you already have a pet dog or cat, sterilising them is the responsible thing to do. The benefits for your pet include

  • Reduced spraying and marking
  • Reduced aggression
  • Reduced roaming
  • Decreased risk of cancer
  • Increased lifespan of 3 – 5 years.

We carry out Spaying (females) and Neutering (males) at Waggin Tails Vet Clinic. We have frequent promos, and our commitment to helping manage the stray animal community locally, means that it’s a lot cheaper than you may think.

When you choose us it’s important to know that we run a CBC blood test to make sure that your pet is fit for surgery – this is a must! Surgery is always a risk for pets but especially so if the dog or cat has a low platelet count, low red blood cells and/or an infection. If a dog has low red blood cells or low platelets they can die during surgery. Often there are no outward signs of this so it is vital that you get a complete blood count prior to surgery.

Our spay and neuter costs cover blood tests and aftercare medicine.

We have some sad news to share today - We will have to close Waggin Tails vet clinic for the foreseeable future. As many of you know, we are trying to find ways to support DAS financially so we set up a private vet clinic to try and raise funds.
